City of Lawrence Awarded CZM Grant
(BOSTON) – State Representative David Torrisi (D-North Andover), State Representative Marcos Devers (D-Lawrence) and State Senator Barry Finegold (D-Andover) are pleased to announce that the City of Lawrence is being awarded a Coastal Pollution Remediation grant from the Office of Coastal Zone Management.
This award, in the amount of $53,489, will be used for the Spicket River Coastal Pollutant Remediation Project. This project will support the design and implementation of storm water best management practices at a municipal parking lot and adjacent street in the City of Lawrence. For over 10 years, the Coastal Pollution Remediation program has helped communities identify and improve water quality by assessing and remediating storm water pollution.
“The Spicket River is currently being contaminated by untreated storm water. I am pleased that once in place, this program will reduce the bacteria and contaminants in our river and improve the overall quality of our water,” said Representative Torrisi.
“Providing and protecting water quality is a basic and crucial service done by the City. This grant from the Office of Coastal Zone Management will create programs that aim to combat the complications caused by untreated storm water that now flows directly into the Spicket River,” said Senator Barry Finegold. “The grant will also help to incorporate these new procedures into an education and outreach program, ensuring the continuation of these ‘best practices’ for years to come.”
